Moin, Moin everyone and greetings from Hamburg!
The past weekend I had a little getaway to Hamburg City and I wanted to share a couple of travel recommendations with you that I collected throughout this weekend.
Sleep
Whilst our short trip to Hamburg we stayed at the Generator Hostel. It is located right next to the Central Railway Station and only a 3-minute walk to the main shopping street.
Of course, it is not a fancy hotel with a lot of outstanding extra services. However, that was not what we were looking for this weekend and it definitely did the job. We stayed in a double room for 2 nights, which was very cosy and clean.
Overall, we had a positive experience staying at the Generator.
Drink & Dine
Exploring cafés and restaurants in different cities and neighbourhoods is probably one of my favorite things to do when visiting a new city. Let´s have a little run down of all the food places we tried this weekend.
Otto´s Burger
Our first night was spent having dinner at Otto´s Burger. It is a really nice ´chain´ of burger places throughout Hamburg and their menu is perfect for both meat-eaters or vegetarians/ vegans like me.
The interior is a cool, rustic chic, which is very inviting to a young audience. We both ordered the Veggie Pumpkin-Chia Seed Burger with an extra ´cheesesteak´ on top. If like us, you were wondering what on earth a cheesesteak is – A cheesesteak is a really thin piece of cheese that is crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside and adds a heavenly taste to probably any burger on the menu. On the side, we had two versions of their famous poutine-style fries – The Mexican fries and the Chipotle cheese fries. Really delicious! I definitely recommend you to visit Otto´s if you´re looking for a delicious burger in Hamburg!
Jill´s Neapolitan Pizza

On our second evening in Hamburg, we went for dinner at Jill´s Neapolitan Pizza. Jill´s is a cute little restaurant in the Schanzenviertel, with a really nice backyard where you can sit and enjoy your dinner. The inside is decorated very nicely as well, plus, you can watch your pizza being cooked in an amazing wood-fired oven. Now, the waiting game was a bit of an issue, as our pizzas took about 45 minutes to be prepared… Usually, I would never dare you to wait this long for a pizza, however, I am not exaggerating when I tell you, that this pizza was the most delicious one I have ever eaten in my entire life. The dough, the sauce, the cheese and even the drizzle of olive oil on top… everything was just perfect! – Can you tell I´m in food heaven?
Moreover, the drinks menu is very unique and if you´re a Spritz or Gin Tonic fanatic like me, you´ll be pleased during your waiting time anyways!

Atelier F

For our last meal in Hamburg, we decided to give Atelier F a try. After being more than disappointed that they were not open for Brunch on Monday, we gave it another shot at lunchtime.
Atelier F is located right next to the Alsterfleet, which is beautiful and calm for sitting outside. The menu sounded extremely convincing and the restaurant itself looked beautiful as well – So with a lot of high expectations we had a seat at Atelier F. Sadly, our expectations weren´t nearly fulfilled.
After sitting down for more than 20 minutes without a waiter even noticing us, we gave them a sign and had our order taken. We both ordered the Avocado Tartar, with a side of Mac n´ cheese and some truffle fries to share. The food was alright, but nothing special.
Overall, I would not visit Atelier F again, as the service was quite bad and the food was not as pleasing either. It is a really nice place to visit for a chill drink at the water I reckon, however, I would personally not feel the need to visit again.
Mad About Juice

Breakfast-wise, we tried out Mad About Juice, as we had heard a lot of good things about this place.
I am a sucker for all kinds of smoothie bowls. So, I had to try the Acai Flamengo Bowl and I loved it! For those of you wondering, a smoothie bowl is surprisingly filling and in my opinion the perfect start to a summer morning.
All in all, I highly recommend you to try Mad About Juice, if you get the chance. If not, head over to my Breakfast Bowls post and create your own smoothie bowl at home. They´re just as good – Promised!
Oma´s Apotheke
After dinner, the fun doesn’t stop in Hamburg! For a delicious nightcap, we had a seat at Oma´s Apotheke.
There is not much to say, other than the drinks being delicious and comparably cheap. Plus, it is located in the really cool Schanzenviertel, right next to the Bullerei.
Katze
Another bar that we tried was Katze. I guess the only reason why we ended up in that place was because of the name and a large number of people surrounding this specific bar. The Russian Mule was fabulous and I would love to visit Katze again!
Visit
Elbphilharmonie

The Elbphilharmonie is a newly built concert hall right next to the Elbe river. It is a fascinating piece of architecture to look at from both the inside and outside. I actually recommend you to buy a ticket for the Elbphilharmonie Plaza, which enables you to get to the platform level of the building. From that level, you´ll have an amazing view over the Hafencity and the Elbe river. Tickets cost only 2€ and are in my opinion totally worth it. Even the escalator ride up to platform level is pretty cool somehow.

Hafencity
In addition to visiting the Elbphilharmonie, I advise you to go for a stroll along the Elbe river while you´re in the area. It is really nice to walk along the promenade in Hafencity and watch the hundreds of boats pass by. From here you could even take a boat or the ferry around the harbor, which we would have loved to do. However, you should probably book tickets early enough as there were hundreds of people queuing for boat rides.
Speicherstadt

Visiting the Speicherstadt is another cultural must-see when in Hamburg I guess. It is another really cool neighbourhood and actually a historic complex of old warehouses that are surrounded by water. This area is specifically nice for taking some cool pictures.
Schanzenviertel

The Schanzenviertel is a really hip and cool neighbourhood in Hamburg that I found really enjoyable for both strolling through a couple of shops, as well as having a drink in a cool bar at night.
When first visiting the Schanzenviertel, I was actually surprised, as it did not really match my image of Hamburg that I had so far. This specific neighborhood had more of a ´Berlin atmosphere´ to it. Highly recommend you to have a wonder around this neighborhood during both day and night to experience the versatility of it.
Binnenalster
The Binnenalster area is a great area for taking some pictures, as it offers you a beautiful view of Hamburg. Moreover, it is a nice area for having a relaxing walk along the water, maybe even a jog – if you´re into running!
Shop
For my fellow shopping addicts, I am going to put together a short list of some shops in Hamburg that I really enjoyed! Obviously, you can always have a look around the main shopping area in the city centre, however, I personally really enjoyed the Schanzenviertel with its many individual concept stores.
- & Other Stories
- ARKET
- Edited The Label
- Ace & Tate
- Kauf Dich Glücklich

This sums up my short, but sweet weekend getaway to Hamburg City- I hope you enjoyed reading!
