Watermelon — Grapefruit Sirup

This simple watermelon-grapefruit sirup is the perfect drink option for any late summer day. It is not only refreshing to enjoy as a lemonade, but can also be transformed into the ultimate summer Gin and Tonic — an absolute party hit, I promise!

Ingredients

  • 200g fresh watermelon
  • 1 ripe Grapefruit
  • 2 limes
  • 1/2 cup of caster sugar
  • 1/2 cup of water

Instructions

Add equal amounts of sugar and water in a sauce pan. Cook on really low heat until sugar dissolves to create a so-called “simple sirup”. Stir everything as you go.

Meanwhile — cut watermelon into smaller pieces and put into a blender. Add the juice of the grapefruit and limes. Blend everything until smooth.

Let simple sirup cool down. Add to the blended fruit mixture.

Pour everything into a bowl or nice carafe using a sieve to keep out any larger fruit bits.

Keep in the fridge — ready to serve at any occasion!Serving ideas

Serve this sirup with some sparkling water or a simple soda for any non-alcohol drinkers or kids. Top up with some ice and a few mint leaves — ready to be served!

The real show-stopper at any party will be this delicious sirup served with a single or double shot of Gin, your tonic of choice and of course — ice! I recommend using the Gin “Bloom“, as it has a very light and refreshing taste that works perfectly with the rather bitter undertones of the Grapefruit sirup.
